Snippet

"What is is, Di?" I asked.
Diomedes said nothing.
"Di! Tell me!"
He still said nothing.
"I waited a week for my trial, and now that they've made a decision, you make me wait even more!" I felt more afraid at his silence than I would have if he had just told me. It must be really bad.
He sat on my bed and buried his face in his hands, and mumbled something.
"What?" I leaned closer. "Are they going to hang me?"
He lifted his face slowly, and his eyes were filled with tears. "They're sending you to the games."
I sat down hard. "Oh. I see."
We did not speak for several minutes. The sounds of screaming, of sword on sword, of a roaring crowd, filled my thoughts. Oh, God, please no. Help me, Lord!
"When?" I spoke very quietly. "Against what?"
"Two weeks. A leopard. As a murderer and and a thief, you'll get no training."
"Surely you don't believe that!"
He turned to look me in the eye.
"Persephone, of course I don't believe that. It's what the officials think that matters. Bloodied knife, murdered man, thief caught: it all fits. Unhappy coincidence."
"Don't tell my mother, not even if she comes out of her fever. Tell her I went to Ostia, or anywhere, but don't tell her."
He nodded mutely.
The guard knocked on the door, and opened it.
"Time's over," he said gruffly.
Di blinked at me, then threw his arms around me, surprising me. He leaned his face toward my ear, pretending to kiss my hair.
"I'll be one of your guards at the coliseum. You'll never touch the sand." Kind fools, I thought. I wrapped my arms around his neck, standing on tiptoe as if to kiss him.
"Don't!" I muttered through my teeth. "I'm shut in a Roman prison, not in my bedroom."
The guard cleared his throat. When Di at last release me, the guard was looking at his feet, embarrassed, not knowing, of course, that it was all an act. I almost smiled, but the look on Di's face stopped me. I stared at him, trying to say, Fool! Don't you know you'll be killed?

Urgh. Tagged.

They did it again. I got tagged! HELP!
Twice. First by Poet, then by Hatter. Totally unfair. Now I have to post.
I'm going to do both in one tag and get all the questions over with!

BBC or Kiera Knightly Pride and Prejudice?
Never seen the BBC version. But I like the Kiera Knightly one.
Eowyn, Galadriel, or Arwen? Or, if you like, you can add Luthien and Nimrodel to the mix.
....After much thought, Galadriel. or Nimrodel.
Fantasy or Sci-Fi? If Sci-Fi, Dystopian or straight up Sci-Fi?
Fantascy, definitely. Only read one sci-fi I liked, and it was more like space-age fantasy.
Mermaids or Faeries?
Depends on the mermaid, and the faerie. To read about or to be? Specify the question. To be... I suppose a mermaid. To read about... Depended on the book. Probably the same.

Are you sick of 'or' questions?
Not yet.
If you could have any color, style and type of hair you wanted, what would it be? (and no saying, 'I like my own.' nobody likes their own hair)
I would like to have raven hair without bangs that went to the back of my knees but didn't get greasy and didn't take five hours to wash. Unfortunately, I have slightly-below-the-shoulder hair which gets oily after two days without a shower and I have sidesweep bangs which I'm trying to grow out.
Are you a dark/punk makeup person, a natural highlight person, or a who-gives-a-rat's-finger person?
Third, as far as makeup goes. But I do like the way a bit of eyeliner looks.

Would you consider yourself quiet and shy, quiet and mysterious, loud and friendly, loud and annoying, or just a socialite?
Umm... none of the above? I'm not (I hope) loud and annoying, I know I'm not quiet and mysterious, I'm not overly shy, and I know I'm not a socialite, which only leaves loud and friendly and no one has ever called me friendly...

If you could go back in time, what time period would you go to?
Easy. Medieval ages. Before the Renaissance. About 1000 AD. Or maybe around 30 AD.

Who is your favourite Doctor? If you have no answer, WHY HAVEN'T YOU SEEN DOCTOR WHO???
I don't like doctors. Especially dentists. But I like our new chiropractor. Her name is Abby. Doctor Abby.Did you cry at the Reichenbach Fall? Did you cry when Sherlock talked about the note, or when Watson gave his little heart-destorying speech?
No, I didn't cry at all.

And now for the Hatter's questions:

Would you be a human, dwarf, hobbit, or elf?
Hobbit. Definitely. Who wants to be a dwarf or a human? Then again, maybe an elf would be nice...

Do you write any books?  If so, why?
Yes. Because I have so many stories bottled up inside of me, and whether or not I chose to type them out, I would constantly be writing anyway.

Who is your favorite character from your favorite book?

That is the most unfair question I have yet to read. For to answer it I have to know what my favorite book is. Which changes depending on what book I am reading or have recently read. From The Gammage Cup, Muggles. From The Prisoner of Zenda, Rudolph [Rassendyl] of course. From The Scarlet Pimpernel (which I have yet to finish), Percy. From The Queen of Attolia (which I'm in the middle of reading), Eugenedes or the Magus. From The Pergle Plant (one of my own manuscripts), Will or Gilli. From Untitled Maurelle Story (my current project), the late Quain.

Who is cooler, Reid (me) or Merle?
Maurelle is.

If you could have any eye color, what would it be?  (Even strange colors, like purple or something.)
Blue (watery with flecks of green) like my cat's eyes.

If you could be in any world/realm, where?
I guess Heaven doesn't count... Umm, probably Narnia or 11th century France or England.

Are you bored with my questions?
Maybe, because I've already answered 11 of the Poet's questions and I'm waiting to write on my story.

If I were to show up at your doorstep right now, what would you do?
I would hug you and be very surprised. But happy, too.

If you could profess in any kind of weapon, what kind?
The weapon of words.

If you are listening to music, what song is it?  If you are not, WHY DO YOU HATE MUSIC?!
I'm not listening to music because I'm trying to get this done so I can work on my story with a clean conscience. :)

Do you or don't you like being tagged?  Explain.
I do not because then I have to come up with 1000 other people to tag, and I have to answer all these questions and if I don't I feel guilty.

Now for my own questions:

1. What are you currently reading? If you aren't currently reading anything, why not?

2. Do you like rainy days or sunny days or snowy days best?

3. What is the weather like where you are?

4. Sunset or Sunrise?

6. Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

7. Do you think baby potbellied pigs are cute?

 8. Did you notice that there was no question 5?

9. What did you dream about the night before you wrote this?

10. Do you ever dream about something, and then something like that happens?

11. Woods or fields?

12. Do you own a cellphone?

Finally! Now for the hardest part: Coming up with other people to tag!

1. Katie
2. Nessima
3.Anne

To my tag-ees, I apologize. I hope the tag does not terribly inconvenience you.
